Resident Spotlight: Nina Sheetz

“It has a family feel, nice people and the staff are out of this world!”

Nina Sheetz has lived at Oakley Courts for almost five years. The resident researched and toured other senior living communities in the Freeport, Illinois area before choosing our assisted living and memory care community. As a small community, we are well-equipped to honor residents’ exact choices and respect their wishes.

Nina said what drew her to Oakley Courts was that she knew residents who lived here, and the other communities were too big and didn’t feel as friendly. Our community is renowned for being inclusive and offering a sense of belonging. We know if you like your eggs scrambled or over easy, if you prefer cream in your coffee or sugar, and if you like your chicken grilled or baked.

Now that she’s lived here, Nina appreciates all that about us and more. Our friendly staff, who Nina thinks “are out of this world,” go out of their way to make every resident feel like a friend of the family. Common areas feel open and inviting with comfy couches and quiet nooks to get to know one another. This community was not only designed as a senior home in Freeport, but as a welcome spot for the entire family to connect and enjoy. 

“The food is great,” Nina said, “It provides a good diet, is very healthy and tasty. I also love the exercise classes and playing cards in the afternoon.”

Her favorite hobbies include reading and music. She was previously a church organist and helped with a junior choir. 

Nina’s Background and Family.

Nina worked in a furniture store as a bookkeeper during World War II, but no one was buying furniture at the time. Next, she moved to Freeport to work for Micro Switch in the purchasing department before she was married.

Friends would describe Nina as even-tempered and friendly. We asked Nina what her proudest accomplishment was, and she said it was her children. She has three grown children – one on the East Coast, one on the West Coast and one in Stockton, Illinois. She said, “I am proud to say I have a great-great-granddaughter as well.”
